While Sam and Ryder are down for a morning nap, I thought I'd finally catch up on our blog & say Happy Easter to everyone!
We are spending a nice long weekend in Seattle with my side of the family for Easter. Last Thursday we packed up half the house & headed for the airport for Ryders first flight, first long trip & first visit to meet his GiGi (great Grandma Morgan). He was so much better than I (& the people around us on the plane) expected during the flight. During takeoff he took a bottle like a champ & actually seemed to like the noises. He fussed a bit when nap time came which is totally normal & stayed asleep in his car seat for about an hour while Sam and I finally relaxed a bit & I even caught a little nap as well. Though he wouldn't take another bottle for landing, he didn't seem to mind the pressure change a bit (guess we can rule out ear infection which we'd questioned earlier in the week with the amount of tugging on it he does!). All in all, a great flight for us all!
It was wonderful to see my mom waiting for us at baggage claim & you could just see the happiness beaming in her eyes as she saw us coming down the escalator with her baby boy. We headed to the Seattle waterfront for an amazing lunch with my dad who was working downtown that day. We had local oysters served on the half shell with a champagne & lemon ice concoction (rather than horseradish & cocktail sauce) which was so amazingly good in my opinion!
Mom, Ryder, Sam and I walked around the wharf a little on the way back to the car to enjoy the beautiful weather & soak in the sun before heading down to see my grandmother. All in all a wonderful start to our vacation. =)
Grandma welcomed us with such delight in seeing her great-grandson finally & told me that my grandfather would be so proud of Ryder (tear). We had a nice visit before calling it a day & heading to my parents to put Ryder down for the night. Highlights of our visit to see GiGi were seeing horses for the first time, playing with a monkey that GiGi bought for Ryder & finally delivering GiGi's IPad to her complete with pics of Ryder, our wedding, etc. at which tears were shed in joy.
This past week Ryder has finally started making forward progress with his crawling & though he was able to make it across the room with a combo of falling forward, scooting backwards or using sitting up as a method of gaining ground, he is now starting to do the traditional crawl & we all get a little tickle in watching as he practices. He is also starting to pull himself up on furniture & in his crib so we've had a few bumped head accidents but he's taking them like a champ & recovers quite quickly. When we get home we'll need to finally baby proof. Time for a party! I think we'll have a baby proofing party & invite all the little ones over to tear it up. We'll let them run around & whatever they find gets put away!
Ryder has also been quite the little eater in the past few weeks. However, for the past week he's been skipping dinner at home which has translated to not wanting to eat solids on vacation at all. However, last night I gave him a piece of brisket to play with at dinner & he quite enjoyed chewing on it & ended up taking two pieces. Not sure if any made it to his belly or not, but watching him enjoy grandpa's cooking was reward in itself.
I just looked up & realized that my parents dog, Dallas, is sleeping out here in the living room with me, rather than at the door to Ryder's room where he's been camped out during most his naps this weekend. True to his form, Dallas was exuberant in meeting Ryder & has made him "his baby." When Ryder cries, Dallas is the first responder & paces the room until we get Ryder settled. He is also the first indicator of a dirty diaper & checks Ryder's freshness often. Mostly though, he licks on Ryder with love & even tries to lay in Ryder's lap when they are on the floor together. Ryder loves Dallas, especially when he is jumping up & down (kindred hearts apparently since Ryder's fave activity is bouncing up & down).
Yesterday we went for a late lunch with family friends who haved live near my grandmother for longer than I've been around. It was their 48th anniversary & we were happy to be able to celebrate with them. Ryder was particularly fond of Marion who sang him an old song -the chorus is "Ta-Ra-Ra-Boom de ray" & though I've heard the chorus before, didn't know the words & apparently need to learn them since Ry loved it! Soft bouncing, a nice song & Marion's deep voice were more than Ryder could resist. Within a few minutes on his knee, Ryder's eyes got heavy. He tried to keep it at bay, but finally allowed his head to fall back onto Marion's chest. He eyed GiGi next to him & peeked through heavy lids across the table at us & grandma. Finally, the relaxing seat lulled him to sleep & we all enjoyed an extended after lunch conversation while he napped.
Off to grandma's today for Easter dinner & maybe to the zoo or aquarium tomorrow. Maybe even a date night? Such a nice, relaxing weekend so far. We are so blessed!
Here's to a great visit & a very happy Easter to you & your families!
